Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari province, covering 10,273.12 square miles (1,653,300 hectares), makes 1% of the total Iran area. This province is bounded by four provinces as followed; on the north by Isfahan, on the west by Khuzestan, on the northwest by Lorestan, on the south and southwest by Kohgiluyeh & Boyerahmad. Based on the latest administrative division, this province is composed of 7 municipalities, 17 counties, 26 townships, 39 villages and 925 countries. Considering the population distribution of this province, 51% of the population (418,564 people) resides in the urban areas and 48.6% of the population (419,020 people) in the rural areas. The highest population density belongs to Shahrekord with 5.44% of the population, and the lowest population density belongs to Koohrang with 3.3% of the population.
Shahrekord is the capital city of Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari province, in Iran. It is the largest city in the province, and is adjacent (100 km) to Iran's third largest city, i.e. Isfahan. At the time of the 2006 census, Shahrekord had a population of about 148,464 and the Shahrekord metropolitan area had a population of 380,312. Shahrekord is famous for its natural beauty of the landscape, cold winters, waterfalls and rivers. Shahrekord weather is dry, cold in winter and mild in summer. Shahrekord is the Iran’s highest capital city at 2,070 m (6,790 ft) above the sea level. This led to be known as “Roof of Iran”. Shahrekord is about 521 km (324 mi) far from Tehran, the capital city of Iran.
About Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences
Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences (SKUMS) which has been established in 1986, with a medical school. Thereafter, the School of Nursing and Midwifery was established at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the moment SKUMS has its Medical School, Dental School, Nursing & Midwifery School, Health School, Paramedical school and Nursing school in Boroujen city. More than 2013 students are presently studying in different fields of medicine. A total of 200 faculty members are engaged in different departments. This University has got its own 2 teaching hospitals, with most of the modern equipment and training facilities. It also runs its post-graduation programs in different fields of medicine. SKUMS is going to enhance the health of population of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiary province (in southwest of Iran) by understanding and analyzing the health conditions with focus on the latest world health efforts. Health and medical scientists of SKUMS will improve the ranking of this university among other universities. Persian year 1394 (2014-2015) is the year which SKUMS has been reached the top rank of research and education for the 11th consecutive year among similar Iranian medical universities. This university welcomes all scientific collaborations with national and international scientists with regard to promote the health of human community.
