Successfully Performing Lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery with Laser by PLDD Method in Lordegan
Dr. Pouya Omidi, a neurosurgeon and disc and spine surgeon, announced the first lumbar disc herniation surgery with laser by Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression (PLDD) method in Lordegan Shohada Hospital.
Explaining this news, Dr. Omidi stated: This specialized surgery was performed for two patients with an average age of 40 years who were suffering from severe back and leg pain due to lumbar disc, with full government tariffs.
Pointing to the advantages of this treatment method, he said: Compared to traditional methods, disc surgery with laser is performed in less time, about 20 minutes, and the patient is operated on an outpatient basis without hospitalization and anesthesia.
He also added: In traditional surgery, a long incision is made on the back of the body, which is why the recovery time is longer.
This neurosurgeon and disc and spine surgeon expressed that high accuracy, less blood loss compared to open surgery, the ability to operate in small and narrow spaces impossible in traditional surgery, and faster recovery are the other advantages of this specialized surgery.
Dr. Omidi clarified: Unlike other types of lumbar disc surgery, this operation may only be suitable for very specific conditions, such as when nerve compression causes pain. Therefore, lumbar disc surgery with laser is not suitable for every person who has back pain and choosing the surgical method should be the responsibility of the neurosurgeon.
In the end, he praised the efforts of Ms. Makaremi, an anesthesiologist, and the operating room staff to perform this surgery.
